Corporate creep could corrupt Ethereum’s ethos, dev warns

Ethereum core developer Federico Carrone expressed concern that the increasing influence of venture capital firm Paradigm on the network represents a significant "tail risk" for the Ethereum ecosystem. While acknowledging Paradigm's valuable contributions, Carrone worries that a profit-driven venture fund gaining too much sway could lead to a misalignment of values, steering the project away from its philosophical and political roots toward corporate incentives. He specifically pointed to Paradigm's hiring of key researchers and funding of critical open-source libraries, contrasting this with their incubation of Tempo, a corporate-controlled, payments-focused Layer-1 blockchain. Carrone argues that Ethereum must be cautious about developing deep technical dependencies on any fund, as corporate legibility and influence cause priorities to drift from the community's long-term vision.
