X rolls out ‘Cashtags’ for in-timeline crypto and stock data

X, formerly Twitter, has introduced a new feature called 'Cashtags' that enables users to view financial data for stocks and cryptocurrencies directly within their timelines. This feature, currently available for iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada, automatically suggests relevant stocks or cryptocurrencies when a user searches for an asset or contract address. Tapping a Cashtag allows users to see posts mentioning the asset alongside a live price chart. Canadian users will also find a button linking to Wealthsimple for trading. Nikita Bier, head of product at X, stated that Cashtags are the initial step in X's aim to become a premier destination for the finance and crypto community. The platform clarified that it will not execute trades or act as a brokerage, but will focus on providing financial data tools and links. This move aligns with Elon Musk's vision of transforming X into a super app, with plans for 'X Money' for peer-to-peer transfers and payments also in development.
