Coinbase launches stock perpetual futures contracts for non-U.S. traders
Summary
Coinbase has introduced perpetual stock futures contracts for traders outside the U.S., as part of its strategy to become an “Everything Exchange.” These contracts allow for leveraged positions – up to 10x on single stocks and 20x on ETFs – on major companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Tesla, as well as ETFs tracking the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Unlike traditional futures, these contracts have no expiry date and are cash-settled in USDC. Coinbase notes growing demand for 24/7 equity exposure, currently dominated by decentralized platforms like Hyperliquid, and is leveraging its existing risk engine for crypto derivatives to support this new product. This move signifies Coinbase’s ambition to broaden its asset offerings and cater to a wider range of trading needs.
