Ledger’s Ian Rogers Criticises Crypto Exchanges For ‘Irresponsible’ Security, Dismisses Crypto’s Quantum Risk

Ian Rogers, Ledger's Chief Experience Officer, criticized the crypto industry for what he deems "irresponsible" security practices, particularly software wallets and mobile-first designs that offer users a false sense of safety, arguing that relying solely on biometric locks is inadequate. Rogers stressed that security is about risk management and minimizing the blast radius in worst-case scenarios, which sometimes slows down product development at Ledger. He also dismissed immediate concerns regarding quantum computing threats to crypto security, stating his confidence is based on Ledger's internal cryptography experts, like CTO Charles Guillemet, and confirmed that solutions are already being developed. Rogers believes the industry has failed to clearly communicate the distinction between information-sharing smartphones and secure value-protection devices, hindering hardware wallet adoption.
