Ethereum ICO wallet moves $120M after a decade, throws it into staking
Summary
An Ethereum whale wallet, dormant for a decade, recently moved its entire holding of 40,000 ETH, originally acquired for about $12,000 during the July 2015 genesis launch, which is now valued at $120 million. Instead of moving the funds to an exchange, the holder staked the entire amount, signaling strong long-term conviction in Ethereum.
This action contrasts with other long-term holders (OGs) who have recently sold portions of their holdings; for instance, one whale sold 20,000 ETH starting November 26, and another sent 18,000 tokens to Bitstamp. Another large ICO wallet that woke up in September also chose to stake a portion of its 1 million tokens.
Despite some OGs selling, the top Ether holders continue to accumulate, with the supply held by the top 1% addresses increasing to 97.6%. The largest holders include the Eth2 Beacon Deposit Contract (60% of total supply), followed by Binance and asset manager BlackRock.
