AMINA Bank Becomes First International Bank to Get Hong Kong Crypto License

AMINA Bank has become the first international bank to receive an enhanced "Type 1 license uplift" from Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), allowing it to serve institutional clients with regulated cryptocurrency services. This milestone comes as Hong Kong's crypto trading volumes surged significantly in the first half of 2025. The license permits AMINA to offer 24/7 crypto spot trading, custody, deposits, and withdrawals for 13 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, to professional investors and family offices, addressing a gap in the tightly regulated market. AMINA, founded in Switzerland in 2018, is executing a global expansion strategy, having also secured licenses in Abu Dhabi and, recently, a Crypto-Asset Service Provider license in Austria under the EU's MiCA framework. CEO Franz Bergmueller highlighted that this extensive regulatory footprint across multiple jurisdictions positions AMINA uniquely to offer secure, scalable, and compliant crypto banking services to institutions.
