Filecoin Foundation and FilOz launched Filecoin Onchain Cloud to create resilient, programmable decentralized applications.

Summary

The Filecoin Foundation and its research team, FilOz, have launched Filecoin Onchain Cloud, a decentralized cloud platform aimed at building more resilient onchain applications, announced during the Devconnect event in Argentina. This launch highlighted the vulnerability of the decentralized web to outages in centralized infrastructure, such as a recent Cloudflare disruption. The platform leverages the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) to make digital storage more reliable and programmable, supporting tailored storage markets and retrieval use cases. Early partners, including ENS and Safe, are testing "DeFi frontends" on the cloud. Filecoin creator Juan Benet emphasized that the goal is to support "full data pipelines" from storage and retrieval to processing, ensuring users fully own their stack, which is portable across Filecoin's network. Data is content-addressed via IPFS, preventing tampering. Furthermore, Filecoin Pay acts as the settlement layer, enabling verifiable, pay-per-use services settled in FIL, USDFC, or any ERC-20 token, allowing workloads to operate outside the control of major centralized companies.
