Senate Democrats demand answers on Trump’s pardon of Binance’s CZ

Seven Senate Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernard Sanders, sent a letter to US Attorney General Pam Bondi and the DOJ demanding an explanation for President Trump's pardon of Binance co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao. The lawmakers asserted that the pardon signals to white-collar criminals that they can act with impunity, especially if they enrich Trump. The senators highlighted alleged links between Zhao, Binance, and Trump's family, including the launch of the DeFi platform World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and reports suggesting Binance was involved in developing WLFI's stablecoin code. They also cited reports of Binance lobbying efforts involving payments to Trump-linked lobbyists and CZ's lawyer following the alleged revenue stream provided to the Trump family. The Democrats argued the pardon undermines federal law enforcement and requested clarification on whether Trump's alleged financial ties influenced the decision, noting Zhao had previously pleaded guilty to violating the US Bank Secrecy Act.
