IBM to Enter Crypto with Institutional Client Custody Platform

IBM is entering the cryptocurrency sector by launching the "Digital Asset Haven," a major crypto custody solution designed for institutional clients like corporations and government actors. This platform, developed in partnership with digital wallet infrastructure builder Dfns, will manage custody, transactions, and settlements while ensuring regulatory compliance. Tom McPherson, General Manager at IBM Z and LinuxONE, stated that the platform offers clients the security and reliability of IBM as they expand into digital assets. The service is planned to be available as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription by the end of 2025, with an "on-premises" launch scheduled for Q2 2026. This move comes despite IBM's historical skepticism toward crypto, suggesting an attempt to hedge bets and remain relevant amid rising crypto adoption and integration with traditional finance (TradFi).
