Andrew Cuomo pitches crypto-fueled comeback in NYC mayoral bid

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly positioning his bid for the NYC mayoralty around making the city a global hub for blockchain, AI, and biotech. According to Eleanor Terrett, Cuomo plans to coordinate initiatives across these industries and modernize technology integration, including creating a new chief innovation officer position and an Innovation Council to advise on adoption and workforce development.

This strategy contrasts with the current administration's enforcement-heavy approach, potentially shifting NYC toward attracting industry talent. The plan aims to strengthen the link between traditional finance (TradFi), which has significant capital concentrated on Wall Street, and the crypto markets. Current Mayor Eric Adams has already established an Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology.

Cuomo is running against Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who is the current favorite but whose left-leaning policies have drawn criticism from crypto leaders like Gemini CEO Tyler Winklevoss, who suggested things must worsen in NYC before improving.
