Bitcoin mining entrepreneur pitches 450-foot, $450 million Prometheus statue for Alcatraz Island

Ross Calvin, head of Bitcoin mining firm Parhelion, is developing a proposal to build a 450-foot tall statue of Prometheus on San Francisco's Alcatraz Island, a project estimated to cost $450 million. For the statue to proceed, President Trump would need to reclassify the site from a national park to a national monument. The proposed nickel-bronze statue would surpass the Statue of Liberty in height. Calvin is leading the effort through his American Colossus nonprofit, which aims to submit detailed plans, including renderings and a museum concept, to the President by the end of January. The nonprofit also briefly experimented with a Prometheus memecoin, which failed to gain traction. Calvin's mining firm, Parhelion, currently operates compute capacity in Iraqi Kurdistan with plans for expansion in North Africa and the Middle East.
