Ripple CLO Rejects Narrative That All Crypto Is Good for Is Crime and Corruption

Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty strongly rejected the narrative, prevalent in recent mainstream media pieces, that cryptocurrency is primarily a tool for crime and corruption. In an X post, Alderoty called this framing "lazy and inaccurate," emphasizing that digital assets are used by tens of millions of Americans for practical purposes like lending, proving ownership, and commerce on transparent and traceable blockchains. He argued that crime does not thrive in plain sight, and the transparency of public ledgers makes scrutiny easier. Alderoty stressed that the real story of crypto lies in its quotidian utility—compressing settlement times and creating auditable records for ordinary people and small businesses—rather than sensational edge cases. He also highlighted his role as president of the National Cryptocurrency Association, which aims to showcase these practical user experiences.
