Ethereum Community Unveils Feature to End Blind Signing

The Ethereum community has launched "Clear Signing," a new security feature designed to combat "blind signing" attacks, which have led to billions in losses. This feature, part of the Ethereum Foundation's Trillion Dollar Security Initiative and initiated by Ledger via the ERC-7730 token standard, ensures users can clearly read and understand transaction details before approving them, replacing unreadable hex data with human-readable descriptions. Major crypto platforms like Ledger, Trezor, and MetaMask are among the early adopters and contributors. Trezor's CTO, Tomáš Sušánka, highlighted that attackers exploit the lack of a clear way to distinguish malicious from legitimate transactions, causing users to unknowingly lose assets. Clear Signing aims to directly address this by making transactions understandable, with key components including human-readable descriptions and a neutral descriptor registry, along with an attestation framework for auditors. Several other crypto wallets and platforms have also contributed to its development.
