Cultural Landscape Foundation sues over Trump’s Reflecting Pool renovations

The Cultural Landscape Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging a $6.9 million plan to repaint the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with "American flag blue" paint. The foundation argues that this renovation, awarded via a no-bid contract to Atlantic Industrial Coatings, violates federal preservation and environmental laws, specifically the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. They contend that the pool's original dark grey basin was a deliberate aesthetic choice integral to its design and function, and that the administration failed to conduct legally required consultations and environmental reviews. The lawsuit seeks a temporary restraining order to prevent the application of the blue paint, citing the significant cost and complexity of reversing the change once made. The foundation also questions the no-bid contract process, which bypasses standard taxpayer safeguards.
