Coursera and Udemy complete merger to create AI skills giant worth $2.5 billion

Coursera has finalized its merger with Udemy in an all-stock deal valued at $2.5 billion, aiming to create a dominant leader in the online education space. The combined entity serves over 290 million learners and leverages extensive workforce data to address the growing global demand for AI-focused training.

While the companies operate under a single umbrella, they will maintain separate platforms initially. The deal structure grants former Coursera shareholders 59% ownership and former Udemy shareholders 41%, with the combined entity expecting $115 million in annual cost synergies. This strategic move aims to combat slowing post-pandemic growth and solidify the firms' presence in the enterprise training market.
