Australian Police Seize $4.1M of Bitcoin in Major Darknet Bust

Cybercrime detectives from the New South Wales Police Force's Strike Force Andalusia have seized 52.3 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $4.1 million, in connection with an illegal darknet marketplace based in Ingleburn, Sydney. Two men, aged 41 and 39, have been arrested and face court appearances following the 15-month investigation. Detective Superintendent Matt Craft noted that the operation highlights the lack of anonymity for criminal activity on the darknet. This event coincides with increased scrutiny of virtual asset service providers by Australia's financial intelligence agency, AUSTRAC, as the nation prepares for new regulatory frameworks regarding digital assets.
