EasyDNS accepts responsibility for eth.limo hijack, its first social engineering breach in 28 years
Summary
The Ethereum Name Service gateway eth.limo was temporarily hijacked after attackers used social engineering to deceive registrar EasyDNS. Despite the attackers gaining control of the nameservers, the use of DNSSEC prevented malicious traffic redirection by ensuring that resolvers rejected the fraudulent responses. EasyDNS CEO Mark Jeftovic acknowledged the failure, noting it was the firm's first successful social engineering breach in 28 years. The service has since been restored, and eth.limo will be migrated to a more secure enterprise platform.
