Coinbase Reportedly Courts Anthropic to Bolster Exchange Security Infrastructure

Coinbase is reportedly in discussions with AI company Anthropic to gain access to Claude Mythos Preview, a restricted frontier model with advanced cybersecurity capabilities. This move highlights the increasing need for crypto exchanges to defend against sophisticated AI-driven threats. Anthropic launched Project Glasswing in April 2026, offering select partners limited access to Mythos, which has demonstrated the ability to identify numerous zero-day vulnerabilities. Founding partners include major tech companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase. For Coinbase, this potential partnership is significant given its past security incidents, including a major insider breach in 2025 that exposed user data. Anthropic's own research has shown AI's potential to exploit blockchain vulnerabilities, underscoring the importance of advanced AI tools for security.
