Polkadot (DOT) has reportedly been subjected to an exploit where an attacker minted 1 billion DOT tokens. According to onchain tracker Lookonchain, the attacker then sold the entire minted supply in a single transaction, acquiring 108.2 ETH, valued at approximately $237,000. Wu Blockchain, citing CertiK, indicated that the exploit stemmed from a vulnerability in the Hyperbridge gateway, which allowed the attacker to forge messages and manipulate the administrator of a Polkadot token contract on Ethereum. This manipulation enabled the minting of unauthorized tokens and their subsequent swap for ETH. The incident has reignited concerns regarding cryptocurrency security.
