Lightning Labs CTO Olaoluwa Osuntokun has created a functional prototype designed to rescue Bitcoin wallets during potential emergency quantum-defense upgrades. Currently, Bitcoin's proposed quantum defense involves an emergency soft fork that could inadvertently lock users out of their funds by disabling standard signature systems. Osuntokun’s solution acts as an escape hatch, allowing users to prove ownership via their original wallet seed without revealing it. While the prototype is operational and requires only 55 seconds to generate a proof, it remains an unoptimized side project with no formal integration proposal currently on the table.
