Polygon to activate Giugliano hardfork this week for faster finality

Polygon is scheduled to activate its Giugliano hardfork on the mainnet on April 8, aiming to significantly improve transaction finality. This upgrade, set to occur at block number 85,268,500 around 2:00 p.m. UTC, will allow producers to announce blocks earlier, incorporate fee parameters directly into block headers, and introduce new RPC support for fee data. The Giugliano upgrade was previously tested on the Amoy testnet, where it demonstrated a 2-second reduction in finality. Node operators are required to update Bor to v2.7.0 or Erigon to v3.5.0 before the activation block. This hardfork is a component of Polygon's "Gigagas" roadmap, which seeks to scale throughput for enhanced user experiences in payments and real-world assets. The focus on network performance and faster finality follows previous stability issues, including a finality bug in September and a disruption in July caused by a validator exit.
