CZ Says Crypto Will Survive Quantum Computing — But Satoshi’s Bitcoin May Not

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) addressed concerns about quantum computing's potential to compromise cryptocurrency, stating that upgrading to quantum-resistant cryptography is a viable solution. While he believes crypto as a whole will survive, he highlighted a unique challenge regarding Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, and their estimated 1 million BTC held for decades. CZ suggests that if these coins remain untouched as quantum computing advances, the community may need to consider locking or burning them to prevent future exploitation. He acknowledged potential forks during upgrade implementations and the possibility of obsolete projects failing to adapt. CZ also noted that encrypting is fundamentally easier than decrypting, and that increased computing power is beneficial for crypto's long-term security. Recent research from Google and Caltech has indicated that breaking current encryption may require fewer resources than previously thought, intensifying the discussion around quantum resistance.
