Franklin Templeton taps Ondo Finance to tokenize five equities and gold ETFs
Summary
Asset manager Franklin Templeton has partnered with Ondo Finance to create onchain, tokenized versions of five of its ETFs that track stocks, bonds, and gold, targeting a crypto-native audience. These tokenized funds will trade 24/7 and integrate into the DeFi ecosystem, with Ondo market makers providing liquidity. Sandy Kaul, Franklin Templeton's head of innovation, stated this collaboration accelerates the next era of investing where financial life is built onchain. The five funds slated for tokenization include strategies focused on U.S. equity, large-cap equity, gold, high-yield corporate bonds, and income-focused U.S. equity. Ondo will acquire the underlying ETFs and issue tokens via a special-purpose vehicle. Franklin Templeton has been involved in tokenization since 2021, and these new offerings will initially be available outside the U.S., in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America.
