Crypto payments firm MoonPay has launched the Open Wallet Standard (OWS), an open-source, cross-chain wallet infrastructure standard specifically designed to support autonomous AI agents in securely holding assets, signing transactions, and making payments across various networks without exposing private keys. This release builds upon their earlier "MoonPay Agents" software and aims to standardize key management within the emerging "agent economy" where AI systems perform tasks like purchasing data or paying for compute services. The OWS acts as universal infrastructure supporting ecosystems like Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin, featuring secure key management where private keys are briefly decrypted for signing and then wiped from memory. The standard has seen contributions from over a dozen organizations, including PayPal, Ripple, and Circle.
