Kalshi gets temporary Nevada ban in dispute over sports betting

A Nevada court issued a 14-day restraining order halting Kalshi from offering event contracts, including sports, entertainment, and election bets, in the state. This followed a federal appeals court decision allowing state regulators to seek the order, which the Nevada Gaming Control Board initially requested in 2025. The judge ruled that Kalshi, as an unlicensed entity beyond the Board's control, obstructs the Board's statutory functions. Kalshi is currently facing similar legal challenges in other states, including Arizona, which charged it with running an unlicensed gambling business. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) asserts federal authority over these markets, opposing state jurisdiction, a stance supported by entities like Major League Baseball.
