BTQ Deploys First Working BIP 360 Implementation on Bitcoin Quantum Testnet

BTQ Technologies has launched the first operational implementation of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360 (BIP 360) on its Bitcoin Quantum testnet v0.3.0, moving the quantum-resistant transaction format from theory to practice. BIP 360 introduces the Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR) format, which reduces the exposure of public keys during certain transactions, a crucial defense against potential quantum computer attacks. CEO Olivier Roussy Newton stated this represents a significant step toward quantum resistance. The implementation maintains compatibility with scaling features like Lightning and BitVM, and the testnet includes full wallet tooling for immediate testing. However, BTQ bypassed Bitcoin's traditional governance by creating a parallel chain, raising questions about adoption, as the upgrade requires users to opt-in. Furthermore, BIP 360 does not retroactively protect older addresses whose public keys are already exposed.
