Sam Altman-backed World adds identity toolkit for AI bots on Coinbase’s x402 protocol

World, the identity solution backed by Sam Altman, is releasing AgentKit, a developer toolkit designed for Coinbase's x402 protocol, which facilitates payments for AI agents. AgentKit allows users to delegate their World IDs—a mechanism for cryptographically proving unique human identity—to their autonomous AI agents. This integration enables agents to signal to platforms that they are "backed by a real person while maintaining privacy." Erik Reppel of Coinbase Developer Platform stated that this integration provides a complete trust stack for agentic commerce, allowing agents to pay while platforms verify a real human is behind the wallet. World claims to have nearly 18 million verified humans globally, despite facing some criticism regarding its biometric scanning 'Orb' device. The x402 protocol, which has processed over 100 million payments, is also supported by features like agent-controlled wallets and integrations with companies like Stripe for USDC billing.
