World launches agentkit with Coinbase-backed x402 to verify human identity behind AI transactions

Sam Altman's World (formerly WorldCoin) introduced AgentKit, a developer toolkit designed to provide cryptographic proof that an AI agent is backed by a unique human using the World ID system. This system integrates with x402, a protocol co-developed by Coinbase and Cloudflare, which enables AI agents to conduct micropayments using stablecoins without direct human intervention. The collaboration addresses the critical issue of identity in the rapidly growing market of agentic commerce, which some estimate could reach $3 trillion to $5 trillion by 2030. AgentKit allows developers to link multiple agents to a single verified human, enabling platforms to enforce usage limits at the identity level, preventing abuse where one person could run thousands of agents. Furthermore, World ID offers a privacy-preserving proof of humanity via zero-knowledge proofs, allowing agents to act on behalf of users without revealing personal data, which helps legitimate automated traffic bypass bot detection systems. While the beta relies on Orb verification, World plans to expand credentials to include options like NFC-enabled passports.
