Former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy and helicopter pilot Michael David Coberg was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson to 63 months (over five years) in federal prison. Coberg assisted Adam Iza, a self-styled crypto "Godfather" involved in fraudulent marketing schemes, in extorting a rival and orchestrating a fake illegal drug arrest in 2021. Authorities alleged Coberg acted as Iza's business partner and advisor, receiving at least $20,000 monthly, and they even discussed launching a business selling anabolic steroids. Coberg pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion and conspiracy against rights. In addition to the prison term, Judge Anderson ordered him to pay $127,000 in restitution, noting Coberg betrayed his oath for greed.
