UK Man Accuses Wife of Stealing 2,323 Bitcoin After Filming Seed Phrase

A UK resident, Ping Fai Yuen, has accused his estranged wife, Fun Yung Li, and her sister of stealing 2,323 Bitcoin, valued at $176 million, from his Trezor hardware wallet in 2023. The claimant alleges the theft occurred after the wife used a security camera to covertly record his seed phrase and access codes. Ping claims he was tipped off by his daughter and subsequently installed audio recording equipment, capturing Fun discussing the theft and methods to move funds discreetly. Although police investigated and released the wife on bail with no further action pending new evidence, Ping sought an asset preservation injunction nearly two years later. Justice Cotter ruled that Ping has a "very high probability of success," noting the damning audio transcripts and the discovery of necessary exfiltration equipment during a property search, as Fun provided no alternative explanation for the Bitcoin's movement. The judge recommended an early trial due to the volatility and security threats associated with the cryptocurrency.
