An investigative report revealed a document found on the phone of crypto lobbyist Mauricio Novelli detailing an alleged $5 million payment agreement connected to Argentine President Javier Milei's promotion of the Libra memecoin. The document, dated February 11, 2025, outlines a three-tier payment structure, including an advance, a payment contingent on Milei publicly announcing Hayden Davis (believed to be 'H' and central to Libra's creation) as an advisor, and a final payment tied to a formal consulting contract reviewed by Milei and his sister, Karina Milei. Forensic records also show coordinated calls between Novelli, Milei, and Karina Milei immediately before and after Milei's promotional tweet on February 14, 2025. While an Argentine congressional committee found Milei provided "essential collaboration" to the project, which saw the token briefly surge before collapsing after insiders cashed out $107 million, Milei has consistently denied wrongdoing, and the Anti-Corruption Office cleared him of ethics violations.
