NYT Exposes CZ’s Memoir — Crypto Twitter Made It Free Marketing

The New York Times obtained a draft of Changpeng Zhao's (CZ) upcoming memoir, "Freedom of Money," detailing secret DOJ negotiations that resulted in a $4.3 billion settlement, his brief ICE detainment after prison, and his rivalry with Sam Bankman-Fried, who allegedly requested billions "as if he were asking for a bologna sandwich."

CZ and the crypto community quickly dismissed the NYT's report as unauthorized exposure, instead characterizing it as the year's best free marketing for the book. CZ noted the Times used an early draft without permission, and his lawyer claimed the reporting was based on material "neither in CZ's book nor in his words."

The memoir also touches on CZ's past interactions with former SEC Chair Gary Gensler and includes a controversial passage defending President Trump's handling of classified documents. CZ plans to self-publish the book simultaneously in English and Chinese, with all proceeds going to charity. The buzz surrounding the leak even spurred a related memecoin, which saw significant gains before CZ clarified he holds no such tokens.
