Ethereum news: The network is moving away from being a slow giant to become a high-speed 'internet of value' by 2029

The Ethereum Foundation has released a draft roadmap, dubbed the 'Strawmap,' detailing ambitious upgrades intended to transform the blockchain into a high-speed 'internet of value' by 2029. This plan, which is not binding but signals research direction, focuses on five core ambitions: near-instant transaction finality (reducing time from 16 minutes to potentially 6-16 seconds), dramatically higher throughput, built-in privacy via native shielded transfers, quantum-resistant cryptography, and tighter integration between the base layer and Layer 2s. Researcher Justin Drake noted the goal is to make Ethereum faster, more scalable, and durable. The roadmap reflects a shift away from relying solely on Layer 2s for scaling, suggesting a more balanced approach where the base layer strengthens while L2s adopt specialized roles. These changes aim to improve critical functions like cross-L2 bridging and enhance the network's long-term security and utility for both individuals and businesses.
