Coinbase Opens Commission-Free Stock and ETF Trading to All US Users

Coinbase has expanded its services to include commission-free trading of stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for all users across the United States. This feature allows customers to trade equities alongside cryptocurrencies within the same application on a 24-hour, five-day-a-week basis, featuring fractional shares and instant funding using USD or USDC. Currently, approximately 6,000 securities are supported, with plans for expansion. CEO Brian Armstrong framed this as part of Coinbase's evolution into "The everything exchange." This move occurs as the broader industry sees increased interest in tokenized equities, with platforms like Kraken, Bybit, Robinhood, Nasdaq, and NYSE exploring or implementing blockchain-based trading solutions. Additionally, Coinbase announced a partnership with Yahoo Finance to allow users to seamlessly transition from asset research on Yahoo Finance to executing trades on Coinbase.
