BTC news: Mentioning 'bitcoin' on AI agent OpenClaw's Discord will get you banned

Peter Steinberger, the developer of the popular open-source AI agent framework OpenClaw, has enforced a strict rule banning any mention of 'bitcoin' or cryptocurrency on the project's Discord server. This decision follows a chaotic incident in late January when scammers hijacked Steinberger's accounts after a rebranding dispute with Anthropic, launching a fake Solana token called $CLAWD that briefly reached a $16 million market cap before crashing. Steinberger faced intense harassment from traders who lost money, leading him to publicly deny any involvement and state he would never launch a coin. Furthermore, security issues were found, including unauthenticated public instances of OpenClaw and malicious add-on scripts targeting crypto traders. Although Steinberger has since joined OpenAI and OpenClaw is now managed by an independent foundation, the crypto ban remains as a lasting consequence of the speculative token culture nearly destroying the project.
