Harvard discloses first Ethereum ETF holdings valued at $87M
Summary
Harvard Management Company (HMC), which manages Harvard University's $56.9 billion endowment, revealed in a recent SEC filing that it acquired approximately $87 million worth of shares in the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) during the fourth quarter of 2025. This marks the endowment's first reported investment in an Ethereum-linked product. Concurrently, HMC reduced its Bitcoin exposure, cutting its stake in the iShares Bitcoin Trust from 6.8 million shares to 5.4 million, valued near $266 million at the time of reporting. Overall, HMC's crypto-linked investments totaled $352.6 million, representing about 1% of its total assets. This activity occurred as Harvard recorded a $113 million deficit in fiscal year 2025, though strong investment returns and donor support kept the total endowment value robust.
