UK’s FCA sues Justin Sun–linked HTX over illegal crypto promotions
Summary
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has initiated its first enforcement action under the new crypto promotions regime by suing HTX (formerly Huobi), which is publicly linked to Justin Sun. The lawsuit stems from HTX allegedly continuing to advertise crypto products across platforms like TikTok, X, YouTube, and Facebook after receiving repeated warnings from the FCA. The regulator cited the firm's lack of engagement and opaque ownership structure as additional concerns. Although HTX has recently stopped new UK sign-ups, the FCA noted that existing users still see unlawful promotions and the exchange has not guaranteed these changes are permanent. Consequently, the FCA has requested that Apple, Google, and social media platforms block HTX's apps and accounts in the UK, reminding the public that users of the platform lack protection from the UK Financial Ombudsman Service.
