Ethereum news: MegaETH debuts mainnet as Ethereum scaling debate heats up

MegaETH, a project positioning itself as a layer-2 "real-time blockchain" capable of over 100,000 transactions per second (tps), has launched its public mainnet. This debut occurs as the Ethereum ecosystem is deeply engaged in a debate over the best scaling strategy, contrasting reliance on layer-2 rollups versus potentially increasing layer-1 capacity. MegaETH's design aims to make onchain interactions feel nearly instantaneous, far exceeding Ethereum's current sub-30 tps capability. The project has secured significant funding, including a $20 million seed round led by Dragonfly and a massive $450 million oversubscribed token sale in October, backed by notable figures like Ethereum co-founders Vitalik Buterin and Joe Lubin.
