MegaETH debuts ‘real-time’ mainnet, targets 10 ms blocks

The Block
MegaETH launched its mainnet, aiming for 10ms block times and over 40,000 TPS using its SALT system.

Summary

MegaETH has launched its mainnet, positioning itself as a "real-time blockchain" targeting 10-millisecond block times and a throughput exceeding 40,000 transactions per second. The network achieves this low latency by employing a new system called SALT (Small Authentication Large Trie), which keeps critical data in memory to bypass traditional storage delays, while leveraging Ethereum for settlement and security.

Founded in 2022, MegaETH previously raised $20 million in a seed round led by Dragonfly Capital, with participation from Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Lubin. The launch follows extensive testing, including a global stress test aiming for 11 billion transactions.

The project has decoupled its mainnet launch from the release of its native MEGA token. The MEGA token will launch seven days after one of three Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is met, such as achieving a $500 million circulating supply of USDM or having ten applications from its accelerator, MegaMafia, active on the mainnet.
