Argentine Crypto Fugitive With $56 Million in Bitcoin Arrested in Venezuela

Venezuelan authorities, via an Interpol operation, arrested Rosa María González in San Cristóbal, Táchira state. González is a key figure in the collapse of the Argentine crypto firm Generación Zoe, which defrauded tens of thousands of investors nearly four years ago. She is accused of fleeing Argentina with 611 Bitcoin, valued around $56 million today. Generación Zoe, led by Leonardo Cositorto (who was recently sentenced to 12 years), operated as a Ponzi scheme, promising high returns using proprietary trading algorithms, which González reportedly introduced. After the firm collapsed in 2022, González allegedly attempted to launch a new crypto scheme in Venezuela, defrauding at least a dozen individuals of about $300,000. Extraditing González to Argentina is expected to be complicated due to severed diplomatic ties between Argentina and Venezuela, leaving no country to manage repatriation efforts.
