Amboss Launches ‘RailsX,’ a Bitcoin-Native Exchange Built on Lightning
Summary
Amboss, known for Lightning Network infrastructure, announced RailsX, a peer-to-peer exchange allowing users to trade bitcoin and stablecoins directly without centralized custodians. Announced at the PlanB Forum in El Salvador, RailsX bypasses traditional exchanges that can freeze accounts or impose restrictions by using Lightning payment channels for instant, low-cost swaps. The system is designed to support stablecoins issued on Bitcoin via the Taproot Assets protocol, enabling users to move between bitcoin and stablecoins entirely within Bitcoin's infrastructure. Amboss argues this democratizes currency trading, currently dominated by large institutions, by opening access to anyone with a Lightning wallet. RailsX builds upon Amboss's existing Rails product, and the company is partnering with firms like Magnolia and Bringin to provide fiat on/off-ramps, further bridging Bitcoin and traditional finance.
