Consensys-backed Linea integrates Phylax’s Credible Layer to proactively prevent smart contract exploits

The Block
Linea, Consensys' Ethereum L2, integrated Phylax's Credible Layer to proactively prevent smart contract exploits by preprogramming security rules.

Summary

Linea, the Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Consensys, has become the first full blockchain to integrate Phylax Systems’ Credible Layer, a security technology designed to actively prevent smart contract exploits at the infrastructure level, moving beyond reactive flagging.

The Credible Layer allows developers to embed specific security rules, or "assertions," directly into smart contracts, similar to TradFi circuit breakers. Phylax CEO Odysseas Lamtzidis emphasized that this approach is explicitly preventative, defining unwanted end states rather than trying to anticipate every possible hack vector like traditional audits.

Linea's Head, Declan Fox, stated this integration provides baseline security capabilities, with individual dapps defining their specific rules, which are transparent and verifiable for users. Five Linea-based apps, including Euler and Malda, have already adopted the system. This move is strategic for attracting institutional capital, which requires infrastructure that makes certain failure modes impossible, and the system is designed to be Clarity Act compliant due to its neutral sequencer.
