U.S. marshals investigate claim of $40 million crypto theft by son of federal crypto custodian

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is investigating allegations that John Daghita, the son of Dean Daghita, president of CMDSS, stole more than $40 million in confiscated digital assets. CMDSS provides services for the Department of Justice and Department of Defense, and reportedly holds an active federal IT contract to assist the USMS in managing seized crypto. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT accused John Daghita of siphoning the assets, claiming he saw video evidence of Daghita flaunting millions in crypto linked to government seizure addresses. ZachXBT traced one wallet allegedly controlled by Daghita holding 12,540 ETH, worth about $36.3 million. The theft allegedly occurred between November 2025 and December 2025. The USMS confirmed an investigation is underway but declined further comment.
