Ethereum news: Foundation makes post quantum security a top priority as new team forms

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is escalating its post-quantum security efforts by forming a dedicated Post Quantum (PQ) team, led by Thomas Coratger, viewing this as a top strategic priority due to accelerating quantum timelines. EF researcher Justin Drake highlighted that the new group will focus on driving wallet safety upgrades, research prizes, and test networks, emphasizing a shift from background research to active building, partly utilizing tools like leanVM. Near-term plans include bi-weekly developer sessions on post-quantum transactions, launching $1 million prizes (Poseidon Prize and Proximity Prize) to fund cryptographic hardening, and coordinating multi-client dev networks. The EF also plans community education events to ensure a safe transition before quantum computers pose a real threat to current encryption.
