Ex-Olympian Turns Himself In Over Accusations of Running a Crypto Drug Network

Former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding, 44, turned himself in at the U.S. embassy in Mexico City, ending a decade-long manhunt. Wedding is accused by the FBI of running a transnational drug trafficking operation, allegedly as a member of the Sinaloa Cartel, shipping cocaine from Colombia through Mexico to the U.S. and Canada. Authorities also allege Wedding was responsible for the murder of a witness in Colombia last January. The operation heavily relied on cryptocurrency, specifically a sophisticated Tether (USDT)-based system, to move and launder proceeds from cocaine sales by splitting large sums into smaller transactions routed through intermediary wallets.
