ZachXBT uncovers $282M BTC and LTC theft laundered through Monero
Summary
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT revealed that a victim lost over $282 million in Bitcoin and Litecoin on January 10 through a hardware wallet social engineering scam. The attacker rapidly moved the stolen assets, comprising 1,459 BTC and 2.05 million LTC, and began converting large portions into Monero using instant exchanges. This conversion activity caused a sharp surge in Monero's price, pushing it to a new all-time high near $800, representing a 74% increase since the incident. Additionally, some stolen Bitcoin was bridged across networks via THORChain into Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin.
