Bitcoin Miner CleanSpark Continues Expansion into AI, HPC with Acquisition

Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark has entered an agreement to acquire 447 acres of land in Brazoria County, Texas, as part of its strategic expansion into artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). The plan involves developing a 300-megawatt (MW) data center, potentially expandable to 600 MW, specifically designed for AI and HPC workloads. CleanSpark's CEO, Matt Schultz, noted the accelerating demand for scaled, AI-native compute and the constraint on accessing transmission-level power in strategic regions. This move aligns with a broader industry trend where Bitcoin miners, facing increasing mining difficulty and costs, are diversifying by repurposing infrastructure for AI and HPC, a path already taken by companies like MARA Holdings and Core Scientific. The Texas deal is anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2026.
