Senate Agriculture Committee Set Jan 27 For Crypto Bill Markup

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry has scheduled a markup hearing for its crypto market structure bill on January 27th. This bill is intended to bring “clarity and certainty” to the crypto market and falls under the committee’s oversight of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Chairman John Boozman emphasized the importance of transparency and thorough review as the legislation progresses. A markup hearing allows for debate, amendments, and finalization of the bill before a committee vote. If passed by the Senate, the bill still requires approval from the House of Representatives and President Trump. While the bill has gained momentum, particularly with support from Paul Atkins, chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, some issues remain, including regulations surrounding stablecoin yield and decentralized finance.
