Court temporarily blocks Tennessee regulators’ action against Kalshi

A US federal judge, Aleta Trauger, issued a temporary restraining order preventing Tennessee officials from enforcing state gambling laws against the prediction market platform Kalshi. The Tennessee Sports Wagering Council (SWC) had moved to block Kalshi, Polymarket, and Crypto.com from offering sports contracts, arguing they constituted unlicensed sports wagering requiring compliance with state licensing, consumer protection, and tax laws. Judge Trauger found that Kalshi was likely to succeed on its claims and would suffer irreparable harm without intervention. The order specifically bars the SWC, its leadership, and the state attorney general from taking action against Kalshi until a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for January 26.
