BTQ Technologies has launched the Bitcoin Quantum testnet, which is the first quantum-safe fork of Bitcoin, designed to protect the network from future quantum threats. This testnet replaces Bitcoin’s vulnerable ECDSA signatures with ML-DSA, the NIST-standardized cryptographic algorithm. BTQ CEO Olivier Roussy Newton stated the goal is to provide a live, open environment for the industry to test and refine quantum-resistant solutions before cryptographically relevant quantum computers arrive. Delphi Digital validated the effort, calling the network a "quantum canary," noting that an estimated 600,000 to 1.1 million BTC holdings are currently exposed to these future threats.
